Research Grants
ARC Research (2003-2005)
Title: “Modeling in the Large”
Funding: ARC linkage
2005: $89,819
2003: $91,885
2004: $48,296
…plus contributions (cash and in-kind) from the industry partner
Chief Investigators: Prof Michael Rosemann, Prof. Peter Green (University of Queensland (UQ)), Prof. Graeme Shanks (Monash) and Ms Wasana Bandara (Queensland University of Technology (QUT))
Partner Investigators: Assist. Prof Michael zur Muehlen (Stevens Institute of Technology) and Dr. Wasim Sadiq (SAP Research)
Project Summary:
Business modelling supports a variety of approaches, which are currently of significant interest for Australian organisations. This includes business process management, risk management or Enterprise Architecture design. The trend to have centralised and integrated business modelling leads to projects with a high number of models, modellers, users, and modelling purposes. This phenomenon is called modelling in the large. This research project explores the major issues within these projects and develops improved modelling techniques and project management approaches for large modelling initiatives. The outcomes will streamline the design, integration, maintenance and communication of models with a focus on Enterprise Systems.
As a chief investigator of the project, my role includes active participation in the study design, data gathering, analysis and reporting. I am also the mentor to the research assistant and three Doctoral students [Hui Min Tan (Queensland University of Technology - QUT), Malini Jayaganesh (Monash) and Corina Raduescu(University of Queensland (UQ))] who are sponsored by this project.
ARC Research in Enterprise Information Infrastructures (2005)
Title: Taskforce on Service Computing and Business Process Management
Funding: ARC Taskforce - $ 50,000
Chief Investigators (BPM core group): Dr. Marta Indulska [University of Queensland (UQ)], Dr, Shazia Sadiq [University of Queensland (UQ)], Dr. Sandy Chong (Curtin University) and Dr Wasana Bandara [Queensland University of Technology (QUT)]
Project Summary:
This project will consolidate, analyse and further explore the major issues related to Business Process and Service Management, and arrive at a set of success factors for sustainable business process and service technologies. The project will apply a number of research methods (survey, Delphi study, and focus groups) and use established contacts to key organizations in order to derive a research portfolio in this area. Such a portfolio can be used for evaluative and directive purposes for future EII-related research. The project will also aim to contribute to the body of research in the related fields of service composition, service transaction management, web service modelling, adaptive service management, and grid services. Research on these and related topics will be partially guided by the preliminary results of the identified major issues in Business Process and Service Management. The contributions will be in the form of publication of journal and/or conference papers and organization of a workshop to foster the exchange of research ideas and creation of further research collaboration.
As a chief investigator of the project, my role includes active participation in the study design, data gathering, analysis and reporting. I also provide administration support to the project leader on ad-hoc basis.
Faculty of Science and Technology – Teaching and Learning Grant (2009)
Title: Studying at Uni – Improving Student Study Skills
Funding: $ 10,000
Chief Investigators: Mr Richard Thomas, Dr Wasana Bandara, Mr Malcolm Corney, Dr Daniel Johnson, Ms
Donna Teague, Dr Dian Tjondronegoro
Project Summary:
The focus of this project is to improve student learning outcomes by embedding activities in first year units to improve students’ study skills. The primary goals for this project are to: gain a better understanding of the different student cohorts in FaST, make students more aware of their existing study skills, and improve student study skills to better prepare them for studying in a university environment. A range of approaches including focus groups, action research and interviews will be applied in this project
As a chief investigator of the project, my role includes active participation in the study design, data gathering, analysis and reporting. I also provide project management support for the project.
